- RECOVERY ACTION. For Informational Purposes Only. This action is awarded under Modification no. 123 that recognizes Work Authorization No. BM-100036-20852-10, Rev. 2 (LASO # RA-10-028) and is issued under Management and Operating (M&O) Contract number DE-AC52-06NA25396. This action is funded by Recovery Act dollars. The M&O Contractor DUNS number is 175252894. The description of the work involved under this Work Authorization is shown below: $1,500,000 in operating funds is provided for Los Alamos National Security (LANS) (David Thorn, PI) for experimental and modeling work to develop catalytic processes for converting biomass components into fuel intermediates. This effort will be conducted in collaboration with other partners to the National Advanced Biofuels Consortium. Justification for Non-Fixed Price Type of Contract for WA* (added to description in FedBizOpps): LANS was selected to provide assistance to the Department of Energy (DOE) in this Recovery Act work due to their familiarity with the subject matter and related technical capabilities and expertise. The work falls within the Biofuels Program of DOE Office Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, which is allowed under the prime contract Section J, Appendix B, Statement of Work Section 3.4 entitled "Energy Supply" of the current Contract based on the following paragraph: The Contractor shall conduct research that addresses energy supply issues by applying capabilities in the areas of exploration, reservoir modeling, integrated assessments, and environmental transport. The Contractor shall support DOE/National Nuclear Security Administration's efforts in the broad areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, fossil energy, and nuclear energy.
