- Description
- Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Region 3, Division of Construction and Acquisition at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota, intends to procure a self-powered rotary screw design fish trap on a sole-source basis from E.G. Solutions, Inc., of Corvallis, Oregon. Invasive sea lampreys in the great lakes basin parasitize and kill lake trout, whitefish, lake sturgeon and other species. One adult sea lamprey can kill up to 40 lbs. of fish per year. The sea lamprey management program in the great lakes basin is an international program designed to control sea lamprey populations through trapping and other means in support of a fishery valued at $4-6 billion annually. The Service intends to procure a fish trap from E.G. Solutions, the sole licensed manufacturer of self-powered fish traps with a rotary screw design under U.S. patent 4,929,350. The fish trap available from E.G. Solutions, Inc. has been used to capture migrating parasitic phase lamprey in the Canadian waters of the great lakes. There are other fish traps available on the market, but they do not have the same design that has shown to be successful for the unique purpose of trapping parasitic phase sea lamprey. It is anticipated that the self-powered rotary screw design fish trap will enhance sea lamprey control efforts because it will be able to operate 24 hours a day, is self-cleaning and can adjust to changing water conditions because it floats. The trap is also capable of being utilized in a wide range of water velocities, does not injure fish and is lightweight and can be disassembled for easy transportation.
