Description
*RECOVERY* ***** THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY ***** ***** PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS NOTICE ***** The USDA - Forest Service intends to award a Firm Fixed price Contract for the following project: Located at the Glen Falls Trail on the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina, This project involves: Base Bid • Glen Falls Trail - Northern Section: Maintain and/or reconstruct 0.7 miles of Glen Falls Trail (upper trail) and side trails to observation platforms #1 and #2. The upper trail section of Glen Falls Trail extends from the Highlands Trailhead on NC106 (Station 0+00) to the observation platform #4 (Station 34+24). This is a Trail Class 4 hiking trail and should be maintained and/or reconstructed to meet USFS standards and design parameters for hiking trails. Work includes, but may not be limited to, restoring & resurfacing trail tread; installing or maintaining grade dips & other drainage structures; replacing or installing steps, handrails & cribbing walls; brushing-out, logging-out & felling of hazard trees. Specific maintenance, construction, and reconstruction needs are identified in Trail Log. • Glen Falls Trail Observation Platforms: Demolish & remove metal railings and timber walls at existing observation platforms, and construct four new observation platforms with timber retaining walls and railings per attached drawings and specifications. *** Optional Item • Glen Falls Trail - Southern Section: Maintain and/or reconstruct 0.7 miles of Glen Falls Trail (lower trail) and the side trail to a swimming hole. The lower trail section of Glen Falls Trail extends from platform #4 to the end of the trail at a parking area (Station 66+79). This is a Trail Class 3 hiking trail and should be maintained and/or reconstructed to meet USFS standards and design parameters for hiking trails. Work includes, but may not be limited to, restoring & resurfacing trail tread; installing or maintaining grade dips & other drainage structures; replacing or installing steps, cribbing walls; brushing-out, logging-out & felling of hazard trees. Specific maintenance, construction, and reconstruction needs are identified in attached Trail Log The solicitation for this project will be forthcoming.
