- Description
- A significant rock slide just down river from Kortes Dam in Wyoming has resulted in a complete blockage of the only access road to the dam. The boulders completely covered the road, took out the guardrail and pushed it into the river along with additional rock debris. Additional boulders still on the overhanging cliff pose serious threat of additional rock fall and further damage. River access by boat is extremely dangerous due to high flows to the dam and downstream of the dam. The only access is by scrambling across the debris field and then walking to the dam. The overhanging cliff needs to be scaled as quickly as possible to avoid further damage, and rock debris needs to be removed so that personnel are able to safety access the powerplant. Therefore, it is the intention of the Bureau of Reclamation to enter into negotiations with Moltz Constructors for the purpose of rock scaling, removal of previous rock fall and scaled material, and protection of the North Platte River from scaled and falling rock.
