Description
Please submit your quotes to the secondary contact listed in the synopsis. Under the contemplated contract action, ViaSat, Inc. will provide RIMS spares equipment (items shown in the table below) needed to allow quick turn-around when outages occur. The RIMS is a principal part of the RSTN which consists of four solar radio observatory systems geographically positioned such that solar radio frequencies can be observed on a 24 hour-per-day basis. It automatically monitors, collects, quantifies and reports solar radio events on eight discrete frequencies using three parabolic dish antennas. Both standard reports and alerts are produced when appropriate. Data is processed on-site at each network location and summaries and alerts are forwarded to Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA). Processed data is transmitted continuously, within one minute of observation. The data is applied to meet Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Air Combat Command (ACC), Air Force Material Command (AFMC), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and national program stated requirements for alerts and warnings when solar flares occur. This data is also applied to forecasts of near-earth space environmental conditions that adversely impact military satellite and surveillance systems, as well as High Frequency (HF) and satellite communications and power grids. This is a first time buy of these items. The quantity of these items is sufficient since they will only be used to replace failed items while those items are repaired. This sparing action is expected to last at least 5 years or until another major modification or replacement of the RIMS system.
