- Description
- The Library of Congress intends to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) on behalf of the National Defense University Library System to procure a new integrated library system to meet shared cataloging and resource needs. The NDU Library System consists of two academic libraries, the National Defense University Library at Ft Leslie J. McNair in Washington DC and the Ike Skelton Library at JFSC in Norfolk, VA. The project will replace the current Horizon software with a commercial off the shelf (COTS) product that will provide access through the web to library holdings, military resources, commercial resources and Internet resources both in the library at each campus and remotely for NDU students, staff, and faculty. The NDU Library manages the library system currently consisting of SirsiDynix Horizon 7.4.x, and Horizon Information Portal 3.0.8. The Horizon ILS supporting two libraries contains 310,000 bibliographic records, 509,000 items records and 6,000 borrowers. On average, 33,000 items are checked out monthly. In addition, the system houses the 171,000 MARC records of the Staff College Automated Military Periodical Index (SCAMPI) database which contains the indexed records from a variety of military and naval periodicals and other resources. The NDU Library currently uses the Ex Libris SFX OpenURL resolver and Metalib federated search, but will be switching to Serials Solutions 360 Services including Link and Search and the Summon Webscale Discovery tool. All responses to this synopsis shall be in writing. No telephone calls will be accepted. For information about the Library of Congress FEDLINK program, please visit www.loc.gov/flicc. The RFP will be posted on or about August 9, 2010
