- Description
- DARPA-BAA-10-82 The DARPA Soldier Protection Systems- Material Systems Concept Development (SPS-MSCD) Program seeks the development and demonstration of technologies that will enable the defeat of the current and envisioned future ballistic (bullets, fragments, and explosively formed projectiles (EFPs)) and blast threats, with performance increases substantially better than Rolled Homogeneous Armor (RHA) steel and at lower weights. Ultimate application for both mounted (vehicle) and dismounted (body armor) soldier protection systems is envisioned. DARPA is soliciting multidisciplinary research proposals to develop and demonstrate materials and material systems that can be engineered to manipulate the energy of ballistic/blast threats. This may be done either spatially to maximize rate of degradation and/or temporally by capturing/converting early time threat energy so that it can be used to counteract penetration or blast within the timeframe characteristic of the threat.
