The National Park Service (NPS) will continue with the life and safety improvements of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. This project will consist of the installation of magnetic door holders, repair and replacement of emergency lighting, fire sprinkler and alarm system repair and modification, installation of panic hardware on existing doors, filling in various concrete and CMUY penetrations, and installation of bronze railing for stone stairs. This work will be done in and around historic and culturally sensitive structures as well as in highly visible and public use areas. This project is to be done with minimal interference to the visitor's experience. Coordination with the park personnel as well as other contractors and projects which will be underway at the same time will also be required. Work for this construction project will occur from approximately August 2010 through June January 2011.The performance under this construction project will be challenging due to several steady constraints such as the contractor's ability to provide all transportation to and from the site, the requirement for work in historical structures, experience in scheduling and coordination around and with other contractors and other projects occurring at the same time in the same areas and the requirements to minimize conflicts between multiple contractor operations, visitors to the monument and monument events throughout the work effort. The contractor will also require experience patching concrete and CMU as well as the experience in the installation and repair of emergency systems which includes items such as fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and emergency lighting. The location of the work is on Liberty Island, located in the New York Harbor and is only assessable by water craft.
