- Description
- The United States Special Operations Command has a requirement for the continuous training of Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) Teams in support of the United States Army Special Forces Command (USASFC(A)), consisting of five active duty Special Forces Groups and the 75th Ranger Regiment, consisting of three Battalions and an operational Headquarters element. At any one time, over half of these units could be deployed all over the world, in support of the Global War on Terrorism mission. Success of these unit's missions have a direct effect on National Security. A Multi-Purpose Canine Team consists of a Multi-Purpose Canine and a handler that are trained together in special tactics, techniques and procedures specifically for Special Operation missions. This unique training has been developed over the last several years and has saved lived and greatly contributed to mission success. Training has been conducted for the past several years by conducting four or five training classes per year, depending on the availability of soldiers, unit scheduled deployments, unit requirements and combat losses. Failure to establish a contract in a timely manner, capable of producing an acceptable product of qualified MPC teams, within the current operational timeline, will have a significant operational impact that could result in the loss of life and possible failure of operational missions. Units will have to deploy without these critical teams unless this training is conducted on the current operational timeline.
