Description
The Navy Clothing & Textile Research Facility is conducting a market survey seeking information from industry to identify NIOSH approved Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Abrasive Blasting Helmets that incorporate the following: communication, hearing, eye and face, head and respiratory protection from hazardous blasting media containing metals. The design can either be in a helmet with head protection and with or without a full face tight fitting respirator or a softer hood configuration. The helmet shall allow flexibility and range of motion. Helmet shall be NIOSH approved as a Type CE supplied air respirator for abrasive blasting and meet applicable ANSI standards for eye, face and head protection. 1. Vendor information 2. NIOSH certification number 15. Does product meet ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2010 standards and/or other reference standards (list) 16. NFPA compliance for explosion proof (combustible dusts, static electrical risks) 17. Any additional certifications and related testing results (e.g. NIOSH respiratory certification or flame resistance) Features (Yes/No - Describe in detail when appropriate) 18. Ease of field replacement 19. Hearing protection 20. Accommodate low profile earmuffs? 21. Accommodate other types of earmuffs (describe)? 22. Accommodate communication systems? 23. Helmet noise attenuation (internal sound absorption and noise transmission loss between external environment and inside helmet noise transmission) 24. Noise level inside helmet during abrasive blasting (without reference to PPE) 25. Cooling and/or heating capability The submittal shall include the following information (indicating category), including all benefits and limitations of the helmets. This information shall be entered into the attached excel spreadsheet. The above information, technical data and test data sheets shall be submitted to Navy Clothing & Textile Research Facility, Attn: E. Apelian, Kansas Street, Natick, MA 01760 no later than 20 September 2010. Submitted information will not be returned. This is not a request for proposal or quotation. No solicitation document exists. This is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to procure these items, nor does the US Navy intend to award on the basis of the sources sought notice or otherwise pay for the information requested. No entitlement to payment of direct or indirect cost or charges by the Government will arise as a result of submission of responses to this request for information and Government use of such information.
