Description
SFSIAQ10R0046_ Statistician Silicitation The School of Language Studies (SLS) is part of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), located at the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC). FSI prepares government employees and accompanying adult family members to live and work successfully overseas. The School provides intensive language training in approximately 70 languages, and familiarizes students with cultural norms and other relevant background material relating to specific tasks the employee or family members will need to perform. The majority of the students in the language school are U.S. Foreign Service personnel preparing for an onward overseas assignment that requires language skills. Many must reach specified proficiency level goals for their new positions and are tested at the end of training. Training is full-time, five days per week, and students are enrolled for three to twenty months, depending on the language and the requirements of the job. The School of Language Studies trains 1,500 -2,000 full-time students annually. Information on each student is retained in a central web-based database. Each student record includes 30 data points, e.g., age, post of assignment, previous training, current training goals, progress and final test scores. This statistician position supports the office of the Dean by ensuring that accurate, useful information is available to the Dean from the School's database application, "SLS Express" and provides analysis of this data to identify trends and other insights relevant to helping students and the School reach instructional goals.
