Description
This contract is a sealed bid contract. Contractors will bid by indicating the number of obelisks they will manufacture and ship to our 3 field offices along the United States Canadian Boundary for a total cost of $200,000.00 The Stainless Steel Obelisks are 70 inches tall 7 inches wide at the base tapering to 4 inches in width at the top. A complete bid package which includes photos and drawings of the obelisks are avalible upon request. DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS •1. Stainless steel obelisks shall be fashioned in accordance with Attachment A of 3/16 th -inch thick 316L Stainless Steel Plate. They shall have a number 4 finish (i.e., a standard polish) on the outside. •2. All welds shall be sound, of high integrity and made with a welding rod compatible with the base metal that is E-316 ELC covered or ER-316 bare. The joints shall be designed so that they are not visible from the outside. •3. A ¾ inch hole will be drilled in the two blank sides of the obelisk centered in the obelisk 4 inches from the bottom edge. A ¾ inch hole will be drilled on the two lettered sides of the obelisk centered on the obelisk 3 inches from the bottom edge. •4. "UNITED STATES" shall be inscribed in capital letters on one side and "CANADA" shall be inscribed in capital letters on the opposite side of the obelisks. Letters shall be engraved 0.040 inches deep. The style of the lettering shall be similar to normal Gothic or condensed Gothic. Letters shall be 2 and 3/8 th inch high and 1 5/16 th inch wide. The width of the stroke shall be 5/16 th of an inch. There shall be ½ inch between the bottom of one letter and the top of the next. The first letter in United States shall start 6 inches from the top of the obelisk. The first letter in Canada shall start 16 inches from the top of the obelisk. •5. The letters shall be inlayed with a primer-top coat system. Surface preparation shall consist of removing all grease, oil and dirt before application of primer. Primer shall be zinc chromate, Fed. Spec. TT-p 645 and the top coat shall be a silicone alkyd, black semi-gloss, Fed. Spec. TT-E 490. Primer and top coat shall be from the same manufacturer.
