- Description
- Fort Detrick currently has an outdoor warning system that was purchased from Federal Signal Corporation. The siren system provides activation and two way status monitoring communication, using a FSK digital protocol, from the central control stations to each siren tower over a wireless RF link. Currently Forest Glen does not have a system and is required to. One requirement of the system is to connect and communicate with the Fort Detrick system.. The siren system provides activation and two way status monitoring communication, using a FSK digital protocol, from the central control stations to each siren tower over a wireless RF link. The 128-Bit encrypted FSK communication protocol is proprietary to protect against unwanted siren system activation by outside entities. Communication is two-way so that operators at the central control stations can monitor the health and readiness of each siren tower. It is Fort Detricks desire to expand their existing system to provide siren coverage at the Forest Glen Annex, which can also be activated from the Fort Detrick control station. This is essentially just an addition to the existing siren system. If another manufacturers siren equipment is purchased for the Forest Glen Annex, there will be communication issues from the current Fort Detrick central control station. In order for the siren system at Fort Detrick to have the same communication capabilities with this new siren from a different manufacturer, the whole command control system at Fort Detrick would need to be replaced and/or upgraded. This would include not only the central control stations, but also the siren controllers at each existing siren tower. This would be cost prohibited to the government, therefore we are sole sourcing to Federal Signal Corporation.
