- Description
- The Government intends to issue a firm fixed price contract to New Edge, 3000 Columbia House Blvd., Ste. 106, Vancouver, WA 98661, for a backup MPLS network provided by a single provider other than who is currently used for primary connectivity. NASS is centralizing its data and processing as currently all data from its field offices is hosted offsite. Redundancy will ensure that operations do not halt if primary network goes down. MPLS is a requirement for a private enterprise wide area network. New Edge is the only carrier that can provide this to NASS because they are the only provider other than NASS' current provider that has a Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) IP backbone, required by MPLS to provide MPLS service over Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) Wireless. New Edge is also the only provider capable of providing this service to NASS because of their ability to provide MPLS access over EVDO-wireless which is necessary for NASS to have distributable network hardware kits in the event of a catastrophic event. NASS cannot get EVDO-Wireless service directly from wireless carriers or any other provider with an MPLS network service with class of service using EVDO exclusively. It is imperative to have all locations on the same MPLS network to be 100% secure and have any-to-any communication. In an MPLS scenario, the network cannot have multiple providers delivering their own separate IP backbone. This would defeat the purpose of MPLS. In other words, all locations must have access to the same Private IP backbone. NASS also requires bi-directional CoS over DSL within a private MPLS network context and New Edge is the only carrier currently capable of this. NASS requires MPLS because the Private IP backbone is inherently 100% secure, it provides low latency communication between sites and it will apply priorities to applications giving mission critical applications greatest priority. NASS handles commodity market sensitive information as well as personally identifiable information (PII) so 100% security is critical. This is not a request for proposal. Interested parties should identify their interest and capability to respond by 4:00pm, 16 September 2010.
