- J & A Corrected description: Serial numbers: In order for the contractor to fulfill this requirement, it will be necessary for the contractor to have or initiate serial number controls for each designated item and follow the government approved instructions. The serial number requirement applies to the end item(s) to be delivered under this contract and to any components of the end items(s) required to be serialized as required by this contract, whether produced by the Contractor or a subcontractor. If subcomponents are Government Furnished Parts (GFP), no reporting is required. Unless other specified, serial numbers for assets shall be assigned by the manufacturer performing the production operations and shall be assigned at the earliest preproduction opportunity in order to maintain traceability. Sequence: In the event the contractor does not have a serial number development and assignment system for production, the contractor shall submit a request for serial number assigned by the government engineering support activity. Duplication: In no event shall the contractor assign the serial numbers approved by the government for this contract to any other application WITH THE SAME BASE PART NUMBER, such as commercial sales of a different government contract; nor shall the contractor re-use a serial number assigned to a complete list of serial numbers delivered under this contract. Serial numbers not delivered under the contract must also be reported. EXAMPLE: Serial number XXXX assigned to an item was scrapped, or serial number XXXX did not meet contract requirements and was mutilated. Physical: During manufacture, if subsequent processes remove the serial number, provisions shall be made to relocate the serial number on another surface or tag before the original number is omitted. Documentation: The supplier and sub-contractors shall be responsible for maintaining traceability of all serial number(s) throughout manufacturing operations. The serial number shall be identified on all documentation i.e.; Process Certifications, NDT Certifications, Laboratory Certifications, Production Records, and Shipping Documents. Records shall be maintained for a period of seven (7) years postproduction. See the DLA packaging web site identified in DLAD 52.211-9010(E) for change notices to MIL-STD-129P that apply. 2D bar coding shall be in accordance with ISO/IEC 15438, ISO/IEC 15434 (ANSI MH10.8.3) and DoD 4500.9-R. MSL linear (code 3 of 9 or code 39) bar coding shall be in accordance with ISO/IEC 16388. Shipping label stock quality shall meet MIL-PRF-61002. Bar code print quality shall meet ANSI MH10.8-2000 or ANSI X3.182-1990 (R2000) for applicable 2D and/or linear bar codes. All DVD shipments shall meet additional linear bar coding requirements in DLAD 52.211-9010(C). Except for the Transportation Control Number (TCN), which must always be present on the Military Shipping Label, when the contract/order omits any other data elements as defined in MIL-STD-129P and if the information is not available from the Administrative Contracting Office, then the field is not required as part of the Military Shipping Label and may be left blank. If there are inconsistencies between the schedule and MIL-STD-129P, the schedule takes precedence.
