- Description
- TO PROCURE a fusion splicer for use at the Air Force Research laboratory. The proposed item shall be a Vytran GPX-3400 Fusion Splicing and Glass Processing System or equivalent. This system will be capable of: splicing dissimilar fibers and fibers with off-axis cores; making fiber couplers; and tapering fibers for work assembling fiber-based nonlinear frequency mixing systems in the development of a frequency/waveform agile LADAR. Specific requirements to be procured include: 1. (1) GPX-3400 Fusion splicing and glass processing system with PM rotation and a desktop computer 2. (1) One day training 3. (1) Tension monitor and control system 4. (1) WCS-3000 Water cooling system 5. (1) PC-3 Ultrasonic cleaner Salient characteristics that must be met for splicer to be technically acceptable are: 1. The system must be able to splice polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers 2. End view (not side view) fiber profiling prior to splicing is required for optimum alignment of non-cylindrically symmetric fibers such as PM fiber, photonic-crystal fiber, and helical-core fiber 3. The ability to splice a large range of fiber sizes from 80 micrometers to 1 millimeter is required 4. The system must be able to splice dissimilar fibers that have different melting temperatures due to different fiber diameters and/or material compositions 5. The system must be able to splice standard single-mode fiber to novel fibers with off-axis cores such as helical-core fiber 6. The ability to perform tapering and generate tapers with cladding thicknesses as thin as 2 micrometers from an initial 1 millimeter fiber 7. The ability to make fiber couplers 8. Because of the inherent complexity of this product, training by the manufacturer is requested This is a brand name purchase and any offer must meet all requirements above. This solicitation is a request for quotations. This RFQ is issued under simplified acquisition procedures. The size standard for this effort is 500 employees. NAICS 334516. FOB: Destination. Payment Terms Net 30 Days. Evaluation of Award will be based on (LPTA) lowest price technically acceptable to the Government.
