Description

RECOVERY-- This requirement is being funded in whole or in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. This requirement has been awarded on a sole source basis to Carl Zeiss SMT Inc. for a Helium ION Microscope. This award notice is issued in accordance with the guidance for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Sole source determination is based on the need for the Helium Ion Microscope (HIM) to support the NIST Competence Project which calls for sample preparation for imaging and dimensional measurements of biological samples for investigations at the nano scale. Certain samples, especially biological ones, cannot be imaged or measured unless they are kept frozen during sample preparation and investigation in other types of scientific instrumentation. Carl Zeiss Corporation is the only known vendor capable of providing the Helium Ion Microscope to support this project.
