Description

The Social Security Administration (SSA) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Solar Turbines Incorporated for the purchase of three variable speed drives under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13.106-1(b)(1). SSA has a standing contract with Solar Turbines, Inc. to perform maintenance on the existing turbines and inventory of spare parts. To purchase maintenance on the turbines or parts from any other vendor would void any and all terms, conditions, and warranties included in the pre-existing contract. All spare parts are a proprietary and exclusive to Solar Turbines, Inc. because all spare parts are specifically designed for the Gas Turbine models located at SSA. Solar Turbines, Inc. also carries all exclusive copyright data for the operating controls. In addition Solar Turbines, Inc. is the only responsible source capable of providing these variable speed drives.
