Description
RECOVERY - NASA LARC awarded a Cost Plus Fixed Fee task order to ATK Space Systems,Inc. under contract NNL10AA04B for 'Composite Cryotank Technologies and DemonstrationDesign, Analysis, and Testing for Composite LH2Cryotanks.' This competitive selection (1of 4 selections) was made after a competition among the existing multiple awardStructures, Materials, Aerodynamics, Aerothermodynamics, and Acoustics, Research andTechnology (SMAAART) contractors. The required services include exploring advancedcomposite materials and processes to reduce the overall cost and weight of liquidhydrogen (LH2) cryotanks. For this effort, the Contractor shall perform equivalencytesting to ensure current autoclave materials properties match those established underthe 2nd Generation Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) Cryotank Development program and todetermine the suitability of out-of-autoclave materials and processes for use incomposite cryotanks. The proposed effort will be funded by American Recovery andReinvestment Act (ARRA)funding and is in support of the Exploration Systems MissionDirectorate (ESMD) and the Exploration Technology Development Programs (ETDP) AdvancedComposites Technology (ACT)Project.
