Description
Intent to Announce Request for Project Proposals (RPP) Under Robotics OTA Description: Standoff Dismounted Explosive Hazards Detection and Marking This is not a Request for Project Proposals nor a Request for Information, but for planning purposes only. A project award will not be awarded from this announcement. The Government intends to announce a Request for Project Proposals for execution of an award in support of a Ground Robotics related research area. The purpose of this announcement is to provide members of the Robotics Technology Consortium, and industry in general, advanced notification of Government intent. In December 2007, the Government announced its intent to enter into an Other Transaction Agreement with one (1) consortium in support of Ground Robotics related Research and Development projects. As a result of the Ground Robotics Industry Day in January 2008, one (1) consortium formed, the Robotics Technology Consortium. It is the intent of the Government to make project award(s) to the members of the Robotics Technology Consortium as a result of member project proposals submitted via the Request for Project Proposals. The following is a synopsis of the anticipated Research Area for which project proposals will be sought: The Government anticipates seeking information regarding the capability to provide standoff dismounted explosive hazards detection, marking and neutralization in off-road, complex terrain. This solution would be focused on addressing the ever-increasing threat that is posed by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other explosive hazard threats in many different forms and situations (including those being encountered in operations currently underway in Iraq and Afghanistan.) The sought-after capabilities to be contained within proposals submitted in response to the upcoming RPP would be explosive hazards detection and marking integrated onto a Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS) platform. The Request for Project Proposals (W15QKN-08-9-0001-RPP8) will be issued to the Robotics Technology Consortiums Administrative Agent, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, who will then issue the request to the members of the Consortium. For information on the Robotics Technology Consortium and/or how to become a member, visit the following website: http://www.roboticstechc.org/.
