- Description
- The Montpelier Ranger District, Caribou-Targhee National Forest is anticipating awarding a fuels treatment contract for the treatment (hand thinning/lopping) of approximately 500 acres of trees and brush. The timeframe to accomplish the fuels treatement activities will be from June 1, 2011 to July 15, 2011. Final acreages and specifications will be described within a forthcoming solicitation. The forest would like to hold a site visit for the project with prospective contractors before snow blankets the ground this fall. The site visit will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10:00am. Interested contractors should meet at the junction of State Highways 34 and 91 at the Phillips 66/Burger King in Preston, Idaho. The project site location is approximately 9 miles south on Highway 91 (town of Franklin, ID), then turning east towards the Caribou-Targhee National Forest bounday of the Montepelier Ranger District, approximately 9 miles to the parking lot located just inside the Forest Service lands in the Maple Creek drainage. Road conditions on the last, approximately 8 miles, are of native materials and with a strong probability of being wet and or snow/ice covered, with corresponding slick and difficult driving conditions. Good tires on a high clearance 4 x 4 wheel drive vehicle are considered a necessity to enable potential contractors to reach the Forest boundary and the lowest edge of the project area. This will be the only planned site visit for this project and as the season progresses, access will become more difficult if not impossible without using skis or snowshoes, as snowmobile access will be very unlikely and of little aid to accessing/viewing the area. In order to correctly evaluate this project and the extent of the services involved, it is highly recommended that all potential vendors come prepared for arduous hiking to fully assess this project. For further information regarding this project, please contact Ken Klingenberg, Rebecca Phelps or Garth Alleman at 208-847-0375.
