- CHILL WATER, FIREMAIN, AND ASM SYSTEM PIPING INSULATION RENEWAL FOR USCGC CAMPBELL Work to be completed from 29th Nov 2010 - 3rd Dec 2010 or 6th Dec 2010 - 10th Dec 2010. Interferences Remove or protect all interferences to the work. Tag all interferences that are removed to facilitate proper reinstallation. Ensure that all removed equipment is kept in a clean, dry, protected location. Obtain verification from the Coast Guard Inspector for the protective measure taken for equipment not removed. Prework Survey Visually inspect and record all piping and valve stencils and markings in areas where lagging is to be renewed. Insulation Removal Remove insulation from the chilled water supply and return piping system in the designated work area(s) listed above. Asbestos abatement shall be in accordance with COMDTINST M6260.16. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. CHILL WATER The total amount of insulation to be renewed is listed below: Sixty (60) linear feet piping insulation, 1-1/2 inch pipe diameter size. Ventilation Box measuring 66in X 28in X 30 Ventilation ducting measuring 14in X 8in X 18in Ventilation ducting measuring 80in X 15in x 8in FIREMAN AND ASM SYSTEM The total amount of insulation to be renewed is listed below: Three Hundred and forty-four (344) linear inches piping insulation, four and one half (4-1/2) diameter inch pipe. One hundred and twenty-four (124) linear inches piping insulation, three (3) inch diameter pipe. One hundred (100) linear inches piping insulation, five and one half (5-1/2) diameter inch pipe. 2.8Chill Water System Pressure Testing Note: While the lagging on the chilled water system is removed, the contractor will hydrostatically test the chilled water system and inspect the system for leakage. The cutter is aware that the contractor's work should not have affected the chilled water system but is using the opportunity of having the lagging removed to visually inspect the system in the affected areas for indications of leakage. Any leakage to be repaired will be subject to a contract modification. 2.9Test Performance All acceptance tests shall be performed in the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector. Ships force shall restore all affected systems and clear tags. Provide a written report to the Coast Guard Inspector of all test results within one week of test completion. 2.10Tightness Test With the aid of ship's force, operate the installed chilled water pumps. Visually inspect the entire chilled water system where lagging has been removed for indications of system leakage. Provide a CFR to the ship noting any leakage. Tightness testing will be performed by running the system at its highest normal operating pressure. No leakage shall be allowed after holding test pressure for a minimum of 10 minutes. 2.11Surface Preparation Prepare all steel surfaces where insulation was removed by power tool cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP 3. 2.12In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, inspect all prepared surfaces for deterioration or damage. Submit a CFR to the Coast Guard Inspector. 2.13Upon verification of the surface preparation by the Coast Guard Inspector, coat the prepared surfaces in accordance with COMDTINST M10360.3. Apply the primer coats only. 2.14Installation Install new insulation in place of the removed insulation. Install the new insulation in accordance with referenced CG Drawings and NSTM Chapter 635. FULL-COVERAGE GLUING VICE JUST THE SEEMS TO AVOID MOLDING. 2.15Insulation Preservation Prepare and coat all new insulation material in accordance with COMDTINST M10360.3. Final topcoat shall match original existing color. 2.16Restore all piping stencils as original. 2.17Lagging Repair Acceptance After completion of lagging repairs and renewal, walk the spaces where lagging was repaired or renewed in conjunction with the Coast Guard Inspector and verify that all lagging was renewed, that lagging has been properly recoated, and that all stencils have been restored. 2.18Compartment Restoration Restore all interferences previously removed or protected. Restore all affected work areas to a clean condition. 2.19Coordinate all inspections with the designated Coast Guard Inspector to minimize production delays
