- Description
- Sources Sought/Brand Name or EqualThis is a request for information (RFI). This is not a request for proposal or quotation. The National Park Service (NPS) requests information and recommendations from respondents concerning the product description below. Responses to this sources sought announcement will be used by the Government to make the appropriate acquisition decisions. The purpose of this RFI is to identify potential equal products to the brand name product noted. NPS has periodic requirements for revegetation services. These services are provided for via Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts. Specific projects and requirements are described and awarded via individual task order. Individual task orders may include hydroseeding /seeding requirements. Soil amendments may be needed to meet seeding requirements to ensure proper seed germination and survival of seedlings. NPS uses the soil amendments as a surface application on recently replaced salvaged top soils either just before seeding or incorporated in the hydroseeding slurry. NPS prefers to use an organic soil amendment/fertilizer.NPS develops a scope for work for individual task orders and will specify requirement for a soil amendment/fertilizer, if needed. It is requested that vendors/respondents to this sources sought provide alternative organic products to the following brand name or equal soil amendment: "Biosol" Specifications (as per manufacturers label): 97% natural organic and 3% potassium-magnesia. It is not derived from or contain animal waste or by-products or composted municipal waste. It provides slow release of organically bound nitrogen. Nutrient ratio: NPK= 6?1?3. "Organic substance>70%"Nitrogen (total)>6%"Nitrogen (water soluable)<0.5%"Phosphorus (P2O2)1-2%"Soluble Potash (K2O)3-4%"Carbon/Nitrogen Ration6:1"pH level5-6 Heavy Metal contents in mg/kg of DS (dry substance)"Copper (Cu)<50 ppm"Chromium (Cr)50 ppm"Lead (Pb)50 ppm"Cadmium (Cd)1 ppm"Zinc (Zn)0.100 ppm (All metal content is within the tolerance limits for animal feed.) Usage/application Note: Most of the areas NPS requires work are very nutrient poor soils and most of the species that NPS installs do not require nutrient rich soils and, in fact, will do poorly in high nitrogen soils. The nutrient content of the soil amendment is low compared to many other fertilizers and mimics nutrient levels in undisturbed soils more closely than other higher nutrient content soil amendments and fertilizers. Additionally, nitrogen contained in Biosol is released more slowly than other fertilizers allowing plants a more extended period of having available nitrogen rather than the nitrogen quickly flushing through the system. Any proposed equal will need to address this note. Respondents are requested to submit the following in writing:1.Availability of equal product to the salient characteristics and application noted in this announcement2.Summary of product specifications, demonstrated capabilities, product past performance and application, and comparability to item listed3.Your firm's name, address, point of contact (with phone number, email, and fax).4.Your firms size standard (i.e. large, small business)5.A brief abstract of about the company Responses and comments will be shared with the Government project team, but otherwise will be held in strict confidence. Phone inquiries will not be taken at this time. Respondents are encouraged to submit information via email to Tom Locke at Tom_Locke@nps.gov with the Subject line: "Revegetation soil amendment" no later than 3p (MT) on January 21, 2011.
