Request for Information for Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, VA Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Kit NOTE: This Request For Information (RFI) is for planning purposes only and is issued in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Clause 52.215-3. No solicitation document exists at this time. Issuance of this notice does not constitute any obligation on the part of the Government to procure these items or to issue a solicitation. In addition, the Government is under no obligation to pay for information submitted in response to this RFI, and responses to this notice cannot be accepted as offers. Any information that the vendor considers proprietary should be clearly marked as such. Responses to this RFI that indicate that the information therein is proprietary or represents confidential business information will be received and held in confidence for U.S. Government use only. This RFI is the initiation of market research under Part 10 of the FAR, and is not a Request for Proposals (RFP). Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) plans to solicit for a Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit to replace a current capability. This is anticipated to be a requirement in the immediate future. The objective of the Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit is to provide a Commercial of The Shelf (COTS) device in accordance with FAR 2.101 Definitions for a Commercial Item. The Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit shall be both Quickly deployed. Self contained. Lightweight, single carry. The Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit shall be portable with two modes of operation American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kits identified by this RFI will satisfy DoD s vision of an ISO only environment in the near future. The Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit shall provide satellite communications to the DoD's In-Transit Visibility (ITV) network. The current Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit is a self-contained structurally reinforced kit of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware and software tools. Its primary mission is to offer a capability for quick deployment of RFID technology in austere/mobile environments in support of asset visibility. These kits are single read only. The desired Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit needs to be small in size; lightweight, capable of being stored and operated in all weather extremes, and rugged enough to withstand the hostile combat conditions in which Marines are deployed. See Attachment 1 for specific draft Operational Attributes. The government is requesting responses from vendors capable of providing a COTS Mobile Radio Frequency Identification Infrastructure Kit meeting the operational attributes identified in Attachment 1. Responses should include if the vendor s COTS item can meet the technical requirements and provide pricing. Written responses can be in any format, but electronic media must be in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat formats. RFI responses may be electronic, printed or submitted on a CD. White Paper responses are due no later than (NLT) 4:00 P.M. EST 19 January 2011. Electronic e-mailed submissions are preferred and should be sent to mcsc_isi@usmc.mil.
