Description
Ammunition Response Questionnaire The U.S. Air Force, Air Armament Center, Systems Interface and Integration Branch is interested in obtaining information from the global armament/munitions industry on viable ammunition that potentially meets requirements specified in this request for information (RFI). The Systems Interface and Integration Branch is seeking to identify potential 25mm x137 ammunition candidates for use by the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter gun system in multiple combat environments. This ammunition must have "dual-purpose, air-to-air and air-to-ground" capabilities. The F-35 is a joint USAF/USN/USMC and US-Partner developmental aircraft program, currently in Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD), with a projected USAF Initial Operational Capability of 2016. Over the next two decades, the USAF variant F-35A will replace the USAF F-16 and A-10 and become the primary frontline fighter aircraft for the Air Force. The F-35A is armed with the GAU-22/A which is a 25mm, 4-barrel gun and ammunition handling system. This Request for Information is limited to the questions provided in Attachment 1 which is posted under this synopsis tracking number. Responses to this RFI shall be submitted in the formatted sequence provided at Attachment 1 and should not exceed ten pages, cover page excluded. Photographs and graphics will not be included in the page number limitation if separately attached. Email responses are preferred and should be submitted to the points of contact cited below. Mailed electronic responses (read-only CDs or DVDs) should be sent to the: Air Armament Center, 207 West D Avenue, Suite 626, Bldg 349, Eglin AFB, FL 32542-6808 (Mail Stop: AAC/EBSN/RFI). All submittals must arrive on or before February 4, 2011. All data submissions must be unclassified and produced using MS Word 2007 or earlier in fonts no smaller than 10 pitch. Mark all proprietary information as "For Official Government Use Only". This RFI is for informational purposes only. This announcement must not be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor shall any information submitted by industry constitute an offer that could be accepted by the Government to create a binding contract. The Government does not intend to award a contract based upon this Request for Information or otherwise pay for the information solicited.
