- Description
- Request for Information, 11-RFI-0003, entitled 'Directed Energy Viability for Ship Disable Capability,' is posted 19 JAN 11. This Request for Information is intended to seek information relevant to the viability of directed energy systems suitable to operate in the marine environment and capable of disabling a small boat or ship. This announcement constitutes a request for information (RFI) notice for planning purposes. This is NOT a request for proposals (RFP). NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENTS EXIST AT THIS TIME. This RFI does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that the Office of Naval Research (ONR) will take procurement action in this matter. Further, neither ONR nor the Government will be responsible for any cost incurred in furnishing this information. The Office of Naval Research is conducting an independent study to investigate the viability of directed energy systems suitable to operate in the marine environment and capable of disabling a small boat or ship. This report is intended to provide an independent technical assessment for the viability to disable fast inshore attack craft and provide evaluation and recommendation of most viable solution. This report is not intended to be a technical readiness review nor an Analysis of Alternatives. The intent is to review systems which can be designed, manufactured, tested, and installed on a US Navy ship within 18-24 months from the date of this RFI. As a result, innovative and mature subsystem technologies are needed to meet this timeline and should be at a Technical Readiness Level (TRL 6 or greater).
