Description
Contractor to provide a chartered ocean-going vessel and associated services in the Chukchi Sea for the USGS Alaska Science Center, Anchorage, AK. The USGS will conduct operations in the Chukchi Sea to tag and identify walrus species in the Arctic Regions. Any vessel capable of working in broken sea ice in support of these operations is sought. The approximate period of performance is middle July to early August 2011. The vessel will provide transportation and support for a science crew of nine USGS scientists. Operations will include deployment of small work boats allowing USGS personnel to attach satellite linked radio tags on walruses within the sea ice margin. Two USGS workboats will be used for the field work and must be loaded onto the vessel from a port with road access near Anchorage, AK. The work area is the Chukchi Sea at the southern end of the retreating pack ice, starting north of Point Hope, depending on sea ice conditions. The vessel will operate within the sea ice margin. The contractor's vessel must meet all current US Coast Guard (USCG) standards for an oceanographic research vessel for safe off shore operations in the Arctic Ocean. Name of vessel, proof of USCG license, proof of insurance, a description of the watercraft, and experience of the vessel's Captain are required. The vessel's Captain must demonstrate approximately three years experience operating large watercraft in the following specific regions, ice-bearing waters of the North Pacific and or Arctic Oceans. Vessel shall be made available for inspection before award. A Request for Quotation, G11PS00051, will be issued with an anticipated award date of May 15, 2011. All responsible sources may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the agency. This procurement is a 100% set-a-side for small business.
