- Description
- THIS IS A PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE. ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF RFP FA8520-11-R-31544 IS 10 FEB 2011. THIS ACQUISTION IS A 100% SMALL BUSINESS SET ASIDE. THIS WILL BE A FIRM- FIXED PRICE CONTRACT WITH BASIC ONLY FOR THE FOLLOWING: This requirement is for a basic ONLY, Firm Fixed Price contract to develop manufacturing capabilities for improved GAU-18/A. 50 caliber machine gun barrels. This is a 100% small business set aside acquisition. This will involve the manufacture of two (2) prototype barrels in accordance with Government-provided drawings and inspection to ensure compliance. The improved barrel design is expected to improve weapon system maintainability, reliability, supportability, and service life. The improved barrel is intended to be used on HH-60G and CV-22 aircraft. The current barrel is only qualified to endure a 5,000 round service life. The improved barrel is designed to be interchangeable with the current configuration with a longer service life. If performance characteristics are proven equal to or greater than the current barrel, the design will be continued to readily transfer heat from the breech, thus reducing the potential for "cook-offs" as well as increasing the burst length available to the gunners and flight engineers. The Contractor shall provide material and finish certification to show conformance to the material and coating requirements. The Contractor shall dimensionally inspect the manufactured barrels and provide a test report showing the values of the measured dimensions. The prototype barrels must meet all tolerances of the TDP for acceptance.
