- Description
- The Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) is a scientific user facility which provides thousands of researchers each year with the opportunity to use intense x-ray beams for their experiments. The undulator is a device used at the APS that converts energy from a 7 GeV stored electron beam into a highly collimated x-ray beam. These x-ray beams enable countless experimental techniques which contribute to research in many different scientific disciplines. The revolver undulator is a concept largely based on proven undulator designs, but possessing additional features which are expected to greatly increase usability of the device. Relative to the existing APS undulator design, a revolver undulator will, at minimum, require an additional mechanical rotation stage.
