- On February 15, 2011, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is releasing a draft solicitation for community reviewand comment: the draft Earth Venture-2 (EV-2) Announcement of Opportunity (AO). Upon therelease date, the full text of the draft solicitation will be available athttp://nspires.nasaprs.com/. The Earth Venture element of the ESSP Program conducts Principal Investigator (PI)-ledscience investigations relevant to SMD's Earth Science research program. Earth Ventureinvestigations must address NASAs goals to acquire deeper scientific understanding ofthe components of the Earth system, their interactions, and the consequences to life ofchanges in the Earth system. Participation is open to all categories of organizations or institutions, U.S. ornon-U.S., including educational, industrial, and not-for-profit institutions, FederallyFunded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), University Affiliated Research Centers(UARCs), NASA Centers, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and other Governmentagencies. NASA will hold an Earth Venture-2 (EV-2) Draft AO Workshop on Friday, March 4, 2011, inthe Washington, D.C., area to provide an overview of the draft EV-2 AO and to address anyquestions. Information about the Workshop will be made available on the EV-2 AcquisitionHomepage at http://essp.larc.nasa.gov/EV-2/. The comment period for the draft EV-2 AO ends on March 11, 2011. The issuance of the draft EV-2 AO does not obligate NASA to issue the EV-2 AO and solicitproposals. Any costs incurred by prospective investigators in preparing submissions inresponse to this draft solicitation are incurred completely at the submitter's own risk.
