Description
Numerous abandoned mine features are located on National Forest System (NFS) lands administered by the Forest Service. The solicitation is for closure services on NFS land in the Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5). Region 5 encompasses lands in California and small portions of Nevada. These features pose potential physical safety hazards to the public land users, our employees, and wildlife. There is a need to close these features to protect the public from dangerous abandoned mine workings (sometimes referred to as "features"). The contract involves the physical closure of shafts, adits and tunnels using earthen backfill and/or polyurethane foam. It also includes fencing of abandoned mine land features, the fabrication and installation of bat-friendly gates and the restoration or removal of structures and abandoned equipment. It may also include regrading and revegetation of disturbed areas and the decommissioning or obliteration of roads. The purpose of this contract is to secure mine closure (construction type) services in a manner that insures the closure measures taken are of the highest quality and executed with the highest regard for employee safety. Under this Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract, the Contractor shall provide the items of work required in separate Task Orders to remove and/or close physical safety hazards and openings associated with Abandoned Mine Lands (AML). Nothing in this contract calls for work associated with hazardous substances (as defined by 49 CFR 105.5 (b)) or under the authority of the Comprehensive Response Compensation Liabilities Act (CERCLA) or the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
