Description
The United States Department Of Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) intends to make a sole source award to AVI BioPharma for the study of Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) the excercise will conduct & explore the ability to produce novel therapeutic agents to new and emerging infectious pathogens that threaten the warfighter. NMRC is being supported by TMT to Identify likely genetic and protein targets that can lead to novel vaccines and therapeutics. AVI BioPharma has proprietary rights to their Morpholino antisense therapeutic technology. These products have been tested in animals and used in humans and have an acceptable safety profile. AVI BioPharma has submitted two phase I IND applications to FDA to test their Morpholino antisense products for Ebola H1N1 viruses. Morpholino antisense is a proprietary product covered under US and international patent law. Should the experimental Morpholinos prove to be safe and provide prophylactic and therapeutic benefit, other companies will be able to produce the products in keeping with US and international law. The statutory authority for this sole source procurement is 10.U.S.C 2304 (c) (1) per Far 6.302-1 (c). Anticipated award date: 03/07/11
