Description
White paper on digital beamforming for the JPALS The following notice is an UNCLASSIFIED Request for Information. This Global Positioning System (GPS) Digital Antenna Electronics (DAE) Reference Document provides a source of GPS DAE design criteria reflecting PMA-213 and PMW/A-170 envisioned implementation objectives. As such, this document is not contractually binding. It is expected that any future contract awardee(s) will expand upon the reference requirements provided herein to develop a DAE Specification Document suitable to develop a digital GPS antenna electronics system capable of meeting the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) Guidance Quality (GQ) requirements. It is further expected that JPALS GPS DAE working group will expand upon this reference document and mature it into a Performance Specification in preparation for fielding a GPS DAE system(s) as Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) for JPALS targeted platforms. The GPS DAE is a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) and a component of the JPALS Aircraft Navigation Sensor (JANS). JANS is capable of receiving NavStar GPS satellite signals and providing precise position information necessary for precision approach and landing on JPALS equipped fixed wing and rotary aircraft in both benign and jamming environments. JANS consists of a GPS receiver and a GPS Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna (CRPA) with associated Antenna Electronics (AE). PMA-213 and PMW/A-170 formed a JPALS GPS DAE working group with GPS subject matter experts from PMA-213, PMW/A-170, AIR-4.5.5, and the GPS Directorate to develop a performance specification for a GPS DAE system that will meet JPALS GQ requirements. This document is a culmination of the JPALS GPS DAE working group and was written as a Reference Document for industry to capture an early assessment of expected performance requirements for a JPALS GPS DAE subsystem. PMW/A-170 is leading an effort for PMA-213 to acquire a Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) Antenna Electronics (AE) system capable of performing the digital beamforming (beam steering and nulling) function required to meet the JPALS accuracy, availability, continuity and integrity Guidance Quality (GQ) requirements in a Global Positioning System (GPS) jamming environment. In order to met JPALS GQ requirements, DoD must develop and integrate the next generation of AE systems, such as digital beamforming AEs, that minimize biases on the GPA measurements in a jamming environment. This is not a request for proposal or an indication that the JPALS Program Office or NAVAIR will contract for the items contained in this Request for Information. NAVAIR will not pay respondents for information provided in response to this notice. Interested companies should review that attached white paper for more details regarding the Digital Beamforming Antenna Electronics for JPALS. The technical point of contact for this RFI is Kim Wayland. The Government would like industry to provide information on what solutions are currently available or in development to the issue above. Please submit via email to kimberly.wayland@navy.mil or hardcopy to: Kim Wayland AIR 4.5.5 Building 2187, Room 3151 48110 Shaw Road NAS Patuxent River, MD 20670
