Description
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS) is seeking to identify sources capable of manufacturing a Commercial off the Shelf (COTS)/Non-Developmental Item (NDI) four-wheel drive autonomous Robotic Moving Target System (R-MTS). This free ranging robotic target system will be used during live fire training on USMC ranges. This robotic target system will consist of a suite of four to eight robots that can execute complex pre-planned scenarios, moving in and out of buildings through doorways and having the ability to move anywhere on the surface of a range with up to 7 (seven degree) slope that a human could walk without climbing steps. Upon being shot by service ammunition of calibers 9mm, 5.56mm,.300 Winchester Magnum, and 7.62mm a robot must provide instant visual feedback to the shooter and wireless telemetry feedback to the instructor. Robot targets must demonstrate environmental awareness of the terrain and man-made structures such that they will sense and avoid obstacles and be able to seek concealment and cover behind structures when fired upon. The robots movement may not be confined to tracks or bounded lanes but rather they must have the ability to roam freely within a two dimensional area defined as a play-box. The system must be capable of operating day and night for continuous periods of up to six hours at a time. The robots are required to be human-like in size, shape and speed. The robot target must provide a 3-D human mannequin for the upper portion of the body beginning at the hips while the lower portion of the robot below the hips may be a rolling chassis. The human sized 3-D mannequin must be capable of sustaining hundreds of impacts from 7.62mm bullets round hundreds of times before being replaced. A robotic target system is considered autonomous if the robots can move using path-finding and obstacle avoidance algorithms to simulate the movements of foot-mobile human beings. This definition excludes static pop-up targets, targets confined to rails or guides, mobile targets requiring human-in-the-loop control of the target s movement. Additionally, this system must operate without any additional infrastructure such as rails, magnets, fiduciary markers (e.g. reflectors), or sensing devices external to the robot in order for it to operate. An autonomous robotic target system must include the following functional components: Platform the robotic vehicle (movement platform) which provides mobility over USMC urban and home station training area terrains. Obstacle avoidance responsible for detecting and avoiding obstacles, while moving in the desired direction. Localization refers to the ability of the vehicle to determine the position relative to a map stored in computer memory. High level control provides the robot s ability to generate long-term plans, such as sequences and way-points or behaviors, to fulfill its goals and mission objectives. If interested, furnish your detailed response and technical information
