Description

North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service Requirement Description The North Florida South Georgia Veterans Health System has a requirement for five (5) full time employee equivalents contracted Medical Technologists to perform services in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The period of performance will be from 5/1/2011 - 4/30/2012 (3month base period + three (3) 3month option periods). The option periods will only be exercised if the contractor is given written notice by the contracting officer prior to the expiration of each period. Three (3) Medical Technologists will be stationed primarily at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center located at 1601 SW Archer Rd Gainesville, FL 32608 and two (2) Medical technologists will be primarily stationed at the Lake City VA Medical Center located at 619 S. Marion Ave. Lake City, FL 32025. Statement of Work (SOW) - Minimum requirements: Medical Technologist - The Medical Technologist provides direct testing of veteran specimens that are submitted to the department in the different sections (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy, referrals and Specimen Processing) for testing to aid providers in the diagnosis and treatment of the patients that present to the Emergency Department, out patient clinics and inpatients that are either in house for treatment short term or long term in the nursing home. Incumbent is also involved in patient education, staff consultation as needed as well as maintaining equipment and accreditation standards. Incumbent functions within a scope of practice commensurate with training, demonstrated expertise and certification. Testing is performed on different types of specimens (Blood, urine, stools, fluids, tissue, organs) and tests include but are not limited to complete blood counts, metabolic profiles, liver enzymes, cardiac enzymes, thyroid functions, blood type, cross match, cultures, sensitivities, coagulation times, etc... Must have a minimum of 5 years past certification experience in a medical center laboratory, be U.S. citizen and be proficient in spoken and written English. Must have a degree in Medical Technology from a NAACLS accredited college or an equivalent resulting from education in Allied Sciences and a NAACLS accredited clinical practicum program. Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted national Certification from one of the VA recognized agencies (ASCP, AMT, NCA, AAB or AACC).
