Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a brand name sole source fixed-price purchase order under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)), Simplified Acquisition Procedures for a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Version 5 (RHEL 5).USGS Pacific Coastal & Marine Science Center (PCMSC) must replace several Sun Solaris servers, used for seismic data processing, GIS, and other scientific data processing activities, by approximately 100 scientists and technicians. The applications supported on these servers include Landmark ProMAX, SeisWorks, and Open Works; Paradigm Geophysical Focus 2D, SeisX, and Disco; CSM-CWP Seismic Unix; MathWorks MATLAB, Signal Processing, and Statistics toolboxes; IVS Fledermaus; UH SOEST GMT; Columbia LDEO MB-System; many ESRI ARC GIS products; and hundreds of USGS-written applications for data archiving, network management, IT security, and more. These servers are obsolete, and our application software vendors no longer support the Solaris operating system. In fact, the only operating system all of them have in common is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server version 5. The Server must be running RHEL 5 and not RHEL 6 because of the compatibility and legacy systems that run off the Server. We need one new Red Hat Linux server which will consolidate all of these servers. The server must have inexpensive storage with a variety of storage speeds and capacities, and a tape library for disaster recovery backups. *Please see the attachment for further information* Notwithstanding, any firm that believes it is capable of meeting the USGS requirement as stated herein may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation, which shall be considered by the Agency (FAR 5.207(c)(15)(ii)). All questions or comments regarding this procurement shall be addressed in writing to Zachary Buss, at zbuss@usgs.gov. RFQ will be posted as G11PS00336 on or around 04/25/2011.This notice and any resulting solicitation or contract conforms to the requirements in place through FAC 2005-51, Effective 01 April 2011.In accordance with FAR 5.207(c)(13)(i), One or more of the items under this acquisition is subject to Free Trade Agreements. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code for this procurement is 334111 (Electronic Computer Manufacturing). SBA Size Standard in employees: 1000The requirement will be unrestricted to business size.
