- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth Sciences Division(ESD) awarded one Cooperative Agreement for NASAs Goddard Earth Sciences Technology andResearch (GESTAR) Studies and Investigations. The award is based on the solicitationtitled, 'The Goddard Earth Sciences Technology And Research (GESTAR) Studies AndInvestigations.' <P>The University Space Research Association (USRA), Columbia MD, was awarded thecooperative agreement for their proposal, 'The Goddard Earth Sciences Technology AndResearch (GESTAR) Studies and Investigations.' The total value of the agreement is$95,811,856, which will be funded up to $20M annually. This agreement covers the periodof May 11, 2011 through May 10, 2016, with the ability to extend for an additional 5years if deemed appropriate by the Government. <P>Through this agreement, NASA scientists will be able to conduct research collaborativelywith outside scientists that play a key role in conceiving new space-based missions,providing mission requirements and conducting research that explains the behavior of theEarth and other planetary systems.<P>Through this effort, it is expected that the GESTAR will continue to forge newcooperative relationships between NASA and academia, not for profit science organizationsand government experimental research program in concert with Goddard's Earth ScienceDivision, The Solar Systems Exploration Division and the Office of Public Affairs.
