Description
Sources Sought/RFI Package THIS REQUEST IS BEING POSTED UNDER SEVERAL DIFFERENT NAICS CODES. The Smithsonian Institution (SI) is conducting a market survey, seeking information concerning contractors who are interested and capable of providing pre-construction and/or construction services for a potential new Seasonal Inflatable Pavilion (Pneumatic Structure) at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden The Hirshhorn Seasonal Inflatable Pavilion (SIP) is a temporary, air supported, fabric membrane structure that will provide a new event space in the courtyard of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Occupancy is expected to be 800 people max. The structure is to be erected twice a year, in spring and fall, adding an additional 10,000 square feet of sheltered space and containing a total volume of 1,250,000 cubic feet (35,600 cubic meters) of pressurized air. The main volume of the enclosure rises through the courtyard of the existing building and projects above the Hirshhorn approximately 70'-0". Its form is shaped by a series of belts that constrict the membrane, keeping it away from the inner wall of the courtyard. The membrane is held in place by a continuous ballast at its base, and by a steel ring supported by 24 steel cantilevers anchored to the roof. A plywood platform on a space frame forms the floor, raising it off the plaza to span across an existing fountain. The existing building sits 14ft off the ground, resting on 4 large pillars. A 2,500 square foot extension of the SIP appears to ooze under this outdoor space and into the plaza on the west side of the building. When not in use, the fabric membrane structure shall be stored offsite. It will be brought to the courtyard, unfurled, and inflated. Installation and dismantling must leave no visible trace on the building or the plaza. THIS IS NOT AN REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL AND ALL RESPONSE INSTRUCTIONS AND REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION ARE CONTAINED IN THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT.
