- The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Station Support/Simplified Acquisition (SS/SA) Branch, on behalf of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)-Mouse Imaging Facility (MIF) intends to negotiate on a non-competitive basis, and award a purchase order to Micro Photonics, Inc, 4972 Medical Center Circle, PO Box 3129, Allentown, PA, 18106-0129 for the replacement X-ray tube and warranty for the SkyScan 1172 tissue Micro CT scanner. The replacement X-ray tube is needed by MIF to maintain its mission to provide state-of-the-art medical imaging technology the NIH intramural researchers. The replacement is to maintain the proper functioning of the Micro CT scanner in the MIF. This state-of-the art CT scanner is to perform data acquisition and reconstruction sets and to maintain the quality and integrity of the data obtained within the NIH Mouse Imaging Facility. The MIF requires the services of a high resolution Micro Computed Tomography imager to fulfill its mission to provide state-of-the-art medical imaging technology to NIH intramural investigators and programs. The current SkyScan 1172 Micro CT requires periodioc replacement of the X-ray source and X-ray tube to maintain the ability to produce high quality images with quantitative accuracy for measuring anatomical structures. Delivery and installation is 60 days. Micro Photonics, Inc is the sole authorized agent in the US of the manufacturer, SkyScan Be, of Kontige Belgium. The replacement tube must be certified by the manufacturer of the instrument and their duly authorized representatives to maintain the good working operation of the CT scanner and compliance with the manufactures warranty and maintenance agreements. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition using FAR Part 12 procedures and exempt from the requirement of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
