Description
The Bureau of Reclamation is conducting a sources sought in the effort to identify qualified small businesses that are capable of providing induction brazing equipment. The qualifying NAICS code is 333992, and the related size standard is 500 employees. Induction brazing equipment is used when two or more materials are joined together by a filler metal that has a lower melting point than the base materials using induction heating. In induction heating, usually ferrous materials are heated rapidly from the electromagnetic field that is created by the alternating current from an induction coil.Common industries utilizing such specialized equipment include: Automobile Industries, Aerospace engineering, Aviation, Cable and Wire, Forging, Machine Tool, Electrical and Electronics, Rubber and Plastics, Metallurgical Laboratories, Shipbuilding, Tube and Pipe applications. The vast majority of commercial units are in labs or on assembly lines. The pending Government requirement is different in that required units must be fully and easily portable so to enable the user to carry the units to remote locations or logistically challenging site. Examples of some tentative required features per unit include the following: Unit 1: Operate from a 60 Hz source with a supply voltage of 120 Vac (single phase), 208/240 Vac (single phase), or 480 Vac (single or three phase). Operating frequency minimum range 10 to 25 kHz or other frequency suitable for joining large copper conductors of a bar type winding that would be used in hydroelectric generator as shown in Figure 1 (typical dimensions of each bar winding 3.000" x 0.750" or smaller). Adjustable power output. Continuous (100%) duty cycle. Minimum ambient operating temperature range of 32-120 degrees Fahrenheit Self-tuning (impedance matching) for custom made heads. To be used for large hydrogenerator stator winding repair where bar type windings need to be replaced. Brazing together two bars joined by a series clip with a typical dimensions of each bar 3.000" x 0.750" or smaller (refer to Figure 2; typical) Main cable length no less than 30 ft. (9 meters approximately) (source/control to brazing head) If necessary, cooling water will be supplied but only by the available water at the jobsite(s) (typical; ambient temperature tap water, not chilled, not filtered). The unit must be shippable/portable and rugged enough to withstand repeated freight and truck shipping without incurring damage. Training for two personnel will be provided during machine commissioning A custom designed head is to be included. The custom head will be designed to fit in smallest space possible and developed during commissioning/training. Brazing Head Design (as follows): Brazing head design(s) shall be small enough to work in tight quarters (to be discussed with manufacturer). Head must be a thin profile to fit between end windings in a generator (refer to Figure 2). Brazing head/gun must be able to be held/handled by a single person during the brazing operation Brazing head must be electrically insulated from the work piece in case of accidental contact with part during brazing. Unit 2 Operate from a 60 Hz source with a supply voltage of 120 Vac (single phase), 208/240 Vac (single phase), or 480 Vac (single or three phase). Operating frequency minimum range 10 to 25 kHz or other frequency suitable for joining copper conductors as shown in Figure 1 (typical dimensions 0.400" x 0.150" or smaller). Adjustable power output. Continuous (100%) duty cycle. Minimum ambient operating temperature range of 32-120 degrees Fahrenheit Self-tuning (impedance matching) for custom made heads. To be used for large hydrogenerator stator winding repair where ? coil splices are to be performed. Brazing together multiple layers of strands (refer to Figure 2; typical) Main cable length no less than 16 ft. (5 meters) (source/control to brazing head), but 20-30 ft. is preferred If necessary, cooling water will be supplied but only by the available water at the jobsite(s) (typical; ambient temperature tap water, not chilled, not filtered). The unit must be shippable/portable and rugged enough to withstand repeated air freight and truck shipping without incurring damage. Must be able to braze four copper conductors together (lap joint), each with the average dimensions of 0.400"x0.150" (as shown in Figure 1, typical) Training for two personnel will be provided during machine commissioning A custom designed head is to be included: T he custom head will be designed to fit in smallest space possible and developed during commissioning/training. The Government considers any general industry information vital to the success of any procurement. The two major considerations are small business set-aside requirements, and whether or not the Government would benefit from a single multiple award procurement, (or) two separate procurements for the specified 2 units. THIS SYNOPSIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized and posted at http://ideasec.nbc.gov. Interested concerns should submit a non-returnable, general capabilities package or full product specifications (per unit) no later than 5 business days after issuance of this sources sought announcement. Submission packages shall include the following information: (1) Business name, address, CAGE code, size classification based on NAICS size standard, socioeconomic classification (e.g., HUBZone), and a point of contact; All submissions are non-returnable. The Government will not pay for any submissions. All qualified business concerns are requested to respond irrespective of business size status. Please submit all requested documentation listed below to: Ann R. Manning, Contracting Officer, Bureau of Reclamation, PO Box 25007 (84-27810), Denver, CO 802225.
