The contractor shall be responsible for three specific services: 1. The contractor will develop a survey for the purpose of identifying specific psychological, physiological, and functional barriers that prevent Veterans with PTSD and other psychiatric disorders from returning to work. 2. The contractor will conduct a scholarly review and evaluation of the scientific and professional literature to identify specific service-dog training requirements, specific tasks, and specific dog or breed characteristics that may be most effective in addressing the psychological, physiological, and functional barriers to employment. 3. The Contractor will work collaboratively with NIOSH researchers and conduct at least six laboratory-based clinical case studies to assess/demonstrate the efficacy of service dogs in ameliorating specific psychological, physiological, and functional symptoms associated with the employment barriers. These studies will be conducted at the NIOSH research facility in Morgantown, WV, which includes state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment to simulate various work tasks and work settings under controlled conditions.
