The MED Week Conference offers a venue for minority-owned firms to access information, tools and resources to grow their businesses both domestically and internationally. What is the US Dept of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)? http://www.mbda.gov/ http://www.mbda.gov/main/find-grant-and-loan-info http://www.mbda.gov/main/business-certification Certification can significantly help your business gain access to government contracts. Whether you are just starting a business or your company is already established, you can drastically benefit from these "set aside" contracts. There are several government agencies at the local, state or federal level which offer certification. • Federal Certification • State agencies provide additional information on Minority Owned Business Enterprise and Disadvantage Enterprise. • Department of Transportation Disadvantage Business Certification Your minority business may be able to qualify as: HUBZone business - SBA Administrated Program Section 8(a) Business Development Program - SBA Administrated Program Veteran-Owned business Women-Owned business (WBE) How do MBEs participate in the section 8(a) program? The section 8(a) business development program is statutorily authorized to provide a vehicle through which Federal agencies can make prime contract awards to small businesses owned and controlled by individuals certified as socially and economically disadvantaged.
