- Description
- The Senior Malaria Advisor, as part of the USAID/Angola Health Team, will have the primary responsibility of overseeing the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the USAID/Angola's malaria activities, including liaising with backstops in USAID/Washington and counterparts in CDC Angola and Atlanta. S/he will further provide managerial and technical support to the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) Director and his staff, and help to build capacity within the NMCP. Specifically, the Senior Program Advisor will be working in collaboration with the NMCP and USAID/Angola health team colleagues, will be responsible for developing annual malaria work plans in line with PMI objectives and goals. This will include, but is not limited to, strengthening of health systems; case management of malaria in health facilities; distribution of LLINs through health facilities, large-scale campaigns, and the private sector; intermittent preventive treatment of pregnant women; indoor residual spraying; and the development of information, education and communications materials to promote the use of these interventions. The incumbent, in collaboration with the NMCP, will be responsible for the overseeing the management of projects being implemented by USAID/Angola. This includes, but is not limited to, malaria prevention and control activities such as behavior change and communications activities, bed net purchase and distribution, antimalarial drug purchase and distribution, IPTp coverage, diagnosis and treatment of acute malaria, and indoor residual spraying. The incumbent will also be responsible monitoring and reporting the results of all USG malaria activities in Angola. Successful performance in this position depends upon establishing and maintaining productive collaborative relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including the MOH, provincial governments, World Bank, Global Fund, WHO, UNICEF, other Donors (including corporate partners), and NGOs dealing with issues focusing on malaria. The Advisor shall develop and maintain relationships with these partners and stakeholders in order to effectively assure that all of USG's malaria and health activities are complementary and enhance all other activities being implemented in Angola. The incumbent will participate in meetings hosted by the NMCP on malaria. Since the Advisor will be spend a portion of their time working within the offices of the NMCP, a special focus will be working with them to support, strengthen and enhance their capacity to implement the Angolan malaria program. The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly and work jointly with other members of the USAID/Washington Global Health Bureau, USAID/Angola Health team, CDC/Angola and CDC Atlanta.
