- This Partnership Opportunity Document (POD)is in association with an upcoming NASAAnnouncement of Opportunity for an Earth Venture-2 (EV-2) mission due to be released latespring/summer of 2011. NASA GSFC is seeking a partner to provide the telescope subsystemfor an Earth observing instrument. The potential GSFC EV-2 mission is designed to meetthe science goals of the EV-2 program, as currently understood. (Reference draft AO:http://essp.larc.nasa.gov/EV-2/ )GSFC mission teams will be submitting proposals to the EV-2 AO currently scheduled forrelease in late spring 2011. The AO is a one-step process, with the proposal responsebeing primarily focused on the merit and feasibility of the science objectives of theproposed mission. The submissions will be selected, and the resultant proposal will befunded for formulation and implementation Phases A-F. While the AO schedule cannot bespecified at this time, the following is estimated based on earlier AOs and relatedmissions:AO releaseJune 17, 2011Proposals dueSeptember 15, 2011Mission selectionEarly 2012 (target)Launch2015 (target)OperationsLaunch plus 3 years, possible 2 year extensionThis partnership opportunity is being issued to select a partner to help prepare a GSFCEV-2 candidate mission concept. GSFC is interested in a partner to provide a 0.5 to 1mclass telescope subsystem. The potential partner must have sufficient relevantexperience, including the design, construction, integration and testing ofspace-qualified, lightweight, all-metal reflective telescope assemblies with primarymirrors in the 0.5 to 1 meter diameter class, as well as proven success in delivery offlight hardware within tight time constraints. There will be no exchange of funds between the teaming partners for the portion of thispartnership opportunity dealing with the preparation of the submission to the EV-2 AO.Potential respondents are asked to contact the GSFC EV-2 team by 12 PM EDT on or beforeJune 20, 2011 with a Notice Of Interest (intentionally not called a notice of intent). This Notice of Interest does not create an obligation to respond to the POD, but allowsthe GSFC EV-2 team to disseminate additional details on the mission parameters and toprovide answers to questions from potential partners. Respondents may send questions to the GSFC EV-2 Team at the E-mail address listed below. All questions and answers will be made available to all those who respond to the Noticeof Interest. The source of the questions shall be held confidential. Questions andanswers that contain information unique to a respondents proprietary approach will notbe shared if they are identified as such. There are no plans to provide additionaldetails on the proposed mission beyond those already included in Section 3.0 of this POD.The Notice of Interest is only to ensure that any questions and answers are provided toall interested parties.
