Description

The US Coast Guard Academy is posting a Sole Source Notice for SHOPBOT TOOLS INC in Durham, NC, for the purchase of one ShopBot 3-axis milling machine. The Naval Architechture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) section currently has a 3-axis ShopBot milling machine that is unable to be accurately calibrated. The NA&ME section has spent significant hours creating local user manuals for the Academy Cadets to use for ship cutting models. These manuals also include converting their design from Orca 3D (Naval Architecture Design Software) to output files that are able to be read by the Shop Bot software. The USCG Academy's intent is to replace the unserviceable ShopBot milling machine with a new ShopBot model, thus avoiding the costly, unbudgeted man hours involved with creating new procedures, manuals and teaching requirements, as well as the purchasing of new computers and software conversion programs. The replacement will enable the NA&ME department to begin scheduled Academy classes on time and is in accordance with Stautory Authority 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1) and FAR Subpart 6.302-1.
