Description
Synopsis Evaluation and Guidance Development for Post-Grouted Drilled Shafts for Highways This is a Pre-Solicitation notice (synopsis) for a full and open competition. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has a requirement to conduct a study to provide a critical and objective evaluation of current design and construction practices for post-grouting drilled shafts (also known as tip-grouting, or pre-stressing or preloading drilled shafts via fluid grout) for highway projects. Alternative construction proposals are increasingly being submitted to highway agencies for post-grouting of drilled shafts. These alternatives are being proposed as a means to: 1. increase end-bearing capacity, thereby allowing drilled-shaft lengths to be shortened; 2. verify capacity as a function of the maximum grout-pressure; 3. stiffen the load-deformation response for working stresses; and 4. minimize the effects of soft-bottom conditions. This study is necessary to provide a basis upon which nationwide guidance for post-grouted drilled shafts for highway design and construction will be developed and provided. The primary objectives of this study are to: 1. Bound the application of this technology for the current state of knowledge. 2. Quantify the improvement mechanism(s) for post-grouting. 3. Develop design methodology(ies) for appropriate applications. 4. Provide method(s) for verification. The NAICS code for this requirement is 541330. The RFP will be released and available electronically at http://www.fedbizopps.gov. Interested parties may register at the aforementioned site to receive a variety of procurement announcements/notifications. It is the responsibility of interested parties to monitor the FedBizOpps website for any amendments to the RFP package. NO OTHER PROCUREMENT INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
