Description
Y- Thinning & Grinding Ponderosa Pine on the Sioux Ranger District of the Custer National Forest Project Location: Project location is int he Ekalala Hills land unit approximately 6 miles South of Ekalaka, MT. Area maps are available at he Sioux Ranger District at 101 SE First Street in Camp Crook, SD. Description of work : For timber stand improvement activities and thinning to reduce the tree density and by the deliberate selection of leave trees, improve the overall health and condition of the stand based on the prescribed objectives. Tree selection and cutting of undesirable or excess trees will provide space for the leave trees to grow and new trees to develop, reduce the incidence of insect and diseases that affect growth and undesirable ree qualities. Work item 1 includes damaged trees from a severe winter storm in 2006 & 2008. Damaged trees shall be treated the same as contractor created slash. Work consists of cutting, slashing and masticating undesirable ponderosa pine trees while selecting trees with desirable characteristics for release and treatment of activity created slash. Additional cutting, slashing and mastication of storm damaged trees including blow down and snapped off trees is required. Slopes 35% or less will be masticated, slopes exceeding 35% will be hand felled and slashed using a chainsaw. Pre-bid tour will be held on JULY 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM Mountain time.
