- Description
- The Dredging and Beachfill phase of the NASA Wallops Island Shoreline Stabilization Project is expected to involve placement of from 2.6 to 3.2 million cubic yards (MCY) of sand along approximately 19,700 feet of beach between the northern end of the existing rubblemound seawall and the southern end of the present geotextile tube. The range in estimated volume of sediment on the beach is a conservative estimate based on modeling that incorporated a factor for assumed sea level rise that complies with current COE design guidance but may not have occurred. The actual volume of sediment will be the amount that achieves the design template requirements. This fill will be placed so as to create an approximately 6-foot high berm extending a minimum of 70 ft seaward of the existing rubblemound seawall. Immediately following project completion, the construction width will be considerably wider than the final post-equilibration 70-ft berm design width. The beachfill design includes an equilibrium profile that extends seaward to the depth of closure. The profile will also include a 14 ft high dune where it covers a seawall. THIS IS AN UNRESTRICTED PROCUREMENT. NAICS CODE 237990 applies to this procurement. The target cost is between $30,000,000.00 and $40,000,000.00 (includes base plus option).
