- Description
- This is a REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI). Please Reference Number-SSA-RFI-11-1015 when responding to this announcement. The Social Security Administration's (SSA) Office of Telecommunications and Systems Operations, Division of Client Server Infrastructure (OTSO/DCSI) is requesting from computer systems providers, information on current server offerings in preparation for a recompete of an existing Windows server Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). The information provided will be used to help educate our staff on current server technology offerings in preparation for writing the technical specifications for the new BPA. The new BPA will include requirements for several classes of servers, blades and departmental Storage Area Network (SAN). Responses to this RFI should include server specifications for any server meeting or exceeding the specifications for each class. The previous BPA had a five-year term, so recommended solutions should take growth potential into account. Responses may include several server options for each class and may also recommend the same server for different classes. Information on servers currently filling each class is provided for a point of reference. The specifications for each model recommended should include the following information and any other information the responder sees as relevant: •· Processor - Clock Speed, number of sockets, number of cores, cache •· RAM - minimum and maximum configuration, available module sizes (GB), type (DDR...), speed •· Hard Drives - available type (SATA, SAS, Solid State...), number of available bays, HDD sizes •· Port Configuration - Number and type of built in ports (USB, NIC, HDMI...) •· Card Slots - number of available slots, type of slot (PCIe, PCI-X...) All recommended models must be rack mountable, 64-Bit ready, and include remote management functionality, including the ability to power on/off and manage/monitor system components. Base Server Class This server class is used where processing requirements are relatively low. Examples would be basic front-end web servers, domain controllers for small sites and hosting small applications. The current server filling this class is a 1U server with dual quad-core processors, 12 DIMM slots, 3 - PCIe slots, and 6 - 2.5" drive bays. Our typical configuration has 6GB of RAM and mirrored 250GB SATA drives. Application Server This is SSA's most common server and is used for typical file and print services in offices with as many as 400 users. It is also commonly used to host moderate load applications. The current server filling this class is a 2U server with dual quad-core processors, 18 DIMM slots, 4 - PCIe slots and 6 - 2.5" drive bays. Our typical configurations have 6-32GB of RAM, and up to 6 - 300GB SAS drives in a RAID5 configuration. Enterprise Server This server class is used for our more process intensive applications like Microsoft Exchange, SQL, core Active Directory services and Server Virtualization hosts. This class is filled by two different server models depending on the processing requirements. One model is a 4U server with four quad-core processors, 16 DIMM slots, 7 - PCIe slots and 6 - 3.5" drive bays. The second model is a 2U server with dual six-core processors, 18 DIMM slots, 4 - PCIe slots and 6 - 2.5" drive bays. Typical configurations may have 32GB to several hundred GB of RAM, additional 4-port NICs, and dual HBAs for SAN. Intensive Processing Server This server is exclusively used for our most intensive database applications. The server is 4U, has four sockets with options for 6-10 cores each and up to 2TB of RAM. Configurations are customized for each application but generally include several hundred GB of RAM, and external or SAN storage. Blade Servers This is not a configuration available on the current BPA but is a planned addition to the new BPA. DCSI is requesting information on current blade enclosure, servers and associated devices and modules. These servers would likely be used in our data centers for server virtualization and consolidation efforts. The blade requirements would be comparable in processing power to our Application and Enterprise class servers above. Departmental SAN This is not available on the current BPA but is planned to be added to the new BPA or potentially become a separate BPA. DCSI is looking for an affordable iSCSI SAN option to be used in our large Branch Offices and some small data center applications. Storage requirements could be as low as 10TB of raw storage, but the devices proposed must be scalable and expandable by adding additional chassis. The internal storage should provide multiple RAID configuration options, and "network RAID" allowing data to be striped across multiple chassis for redundancy is preferred but not required. Data replication to comparable devices off-site for disaster recovery is required. Responses should include specifications on drive type, IOPS (if applicable), expandability, NICs, volume and connection limits and any licensing requirements. Suggested solutions shall be compliant with Section 508 Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Standards. V endors having the capability to provide the above requirements are invited to submit complete details. Interested parties shall respond to this notice within 30 calendar days from date of this publication. Vendors responding shall indicate whether the products are available on the GSA Federal Supply Schedules. Pricing data may be submitted. This is not a request for proposal or quote and the Government does not intend to pay for information received. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation of the data received. No contract award will be made on the basis of responses received; however, this information will be used in SSA's assessment of products available on the market. No Faxed responses. Requests for copies of a solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. No solicitation is being issued at this time. Please submit electronic responses only to the contract specialist identified herein. NOTE: There is a size limit for e-mail; no submission shall be greater than 5 MB.
