- Description
- PROPOSERS' DAY CONFERENCE DARPA will host a Proposers' Day Conference in support of the BAA 11-57, Phase II of the Manufacturable Gradient Index Optics (M-GRIN) program on August 12, 2011 at System Planning Corporation, 3601 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington VA 22207 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The purpose of this conference is to provide information on Phase II of the M-GRIN program; promote additional discussion on this topic; address questions from potential proposers; and provide a forum for potential proposers to present their capabilities for teaming opportunities. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE AND DESCRIPTION: The primary objective of the M-GRIN program is to advance macro-scale Gradient Index (GRIN) lens manufacturing capability to Manufacturability Readiness Level 8, and to demonstrate flexible production of lenses in units of 1 to thousands. It is intended that advances in materials development, fabrication, metrology and optical design tools will be coordinated to optimize the manufacturing process for end product performance while managing cost and yield. Performer teams may choose any manufacturing approach from a single manufacturing floor to a distributed model of various design, fabrication and evaluation entities. Prototype challenges may be issued to drive development and evaluate the performance of the materials, design tools, metrology and manufacturing capability. GRIN optical design tools and algorithms developed in Phase I will be made available for use and/or improvement in Phase II. A secondary objective of M-GRIN is to explore new materials, fabrication methods, and applications for GRIN lenses, and studies to addressing these topics will also be considered. REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Participants must register NLT August 4, 2011 at the following website: https://safe.sysplan.com/sto/mgrin2. Directions to the facility and other materials are also available on the website. There is no registration fee for attending this conference. Due to space limitations of the conference facility, in-person attendance will be limited to the first 40 registrants, with a maximum of one representative per organization attending in person. A web conference will be set up to host an additional 40 participants, with no more than one registrant on each line. A maximum of two representatives per organization (in-person and web attendance combined) may participate in the industry day. If space is available after the registration deadline, additional in-person slots may be made available to registrants. The Proposers' Day will be unclassified and open to the general public. All attendees will be required to present government issued photo identification either upon entry to the event or faxed in advance before logging onto the web conference. Additionally, all US Citizens are required to submit a US Citizenship Verification form in order to attend this conference. Non-US citizens are required to submit a DARPA Form 60 "Foreign National Visit Request". The completed Citizenship Form or DARPA Form 60 must be faxed to: Jessica Marsh, System Planning Corporation, fax 703-351-8776, phone 703-351-8871, no later than August 4, 2011. Both documents are available for download at the registration website. In addition, participants are encouraged to present posters describing their areas of capabilities in order to facilitate communication and collaboration discussions during the poster session. Proposers desiring to submit a poster to show at the Proposers' Day Conference should contact Jessica Marsh (Jessica.Marsh.ctr@darpa.mil; 703-351-8871) as soon as possible, but no later than the registration cutoff date for the Proposers' Day Conference. Those participants who are attending via web conference may also submit posters, and will be able to view all presentation materials that are shown at the conference. All material to be displayed at the conference must be approved in advance by both the organization that funded the research and the DARPA Program Manager. The DARPA Program Manager will screen the proposed material for sensitive but unclassified material and approve in advance any presentations. It is the presenter's responsibility to ensure that all material they plan to present at the Proposers' Day Conference has been approved by the funding organization in advance. An electronic copy of all material to be presented must be provided to the DARPA Program Manager for review by August 9, 2011. There will be no exceptions to this requirement. After the conference, there will be an opportunity to meet individually with the DARPA Program Manager. Please contact Jessica Marsh (Jessica.Marsh.ctr@darpa.mil; 703-351-8871) to schedule an individual session. The Proposers' Day does not constitute a formal solicitation for proposals or proposal abstracts. Attendance is voluntary and is not required to propose to any potential related Broad Agency Announcements or potential research solicitations on this topic. DARPA will not provide reimbursement for any costs incurred to participate in this Proposer's Day
